We promote environmental stewardship across the Pacific Northwest, from the ocean to the streams that run into it. The salmon in the Sammamish Watershed and the Hatchery are not only a food source for people in this region, but also Southern Resident killer whales, a species we study. The health of the Southern Residents is an indicator for the health of our oceans, and the people that rely on them. The activity that we lead during Salmon Days shows folks how we measure Southern Resident health using aerial images and easy measurement tools (using dry erase markers to connect certain parts of the whales and compare the length of lines). We also share tips to help keep watersheds and salmon healthy, which keeps our oceans healthy as well.
