I create both pen and ink and watercolor pieces. My pen and ink pieces are created through the use of a black gel pen that I smudge and blur with water to create depth and texture. Often, I create these sketches on-site and will continue to add details at home in my studio. The pen and ink work is all greyscale with an architectural influence. My work is primarily inspired by wandering. Ideally, I walk until I am so inspired, I have to pause to take it all in. In that place, I listen to the sounds, watch people wander in and out of the space, and then I find a café seat, street curb, or fallen log to sit on. There, I take those observations and translate the feelings through my pen onto paper. I simply use a black Pilot gel pen that I smudge and blur with water to create depth and texture. For the floral stationery, I hand watercolor the original design and then use that to create the pattern for all of the cards, posters, and stickers. My watercolor work is vibrant and celebrates the simple joys of nature. The pace of working in watercolor is a great counterpoint to pen and ink. My watercolor process is slow and methodical with many thin layers of paint that I build up to the final piece.
