Washington Poison Center

Washington Poison Center (WAPC), an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been a cornerstone of public health and safety in Washington State since 1956. Our core mission is to prevent and reduce harm from poisonings through expertise, collaboration, and education. We provide lifesaving 24/7 emergency services, public education, and professional training, ensuring free and confidential access for all Washington residents. Our telehealth services are delivered by trained healthcare professionals. Each year, we handle more than 129,000 calls from across Washington. Nearly 9 in 10 are about exposures to potentially dangerous substances—everything from household cleaners and spoiled food to workplace chemicals, drugs, medications, and even bites or stings. The rest are information calls, preventing poisonings before they happen. And when people call us first, we are able to keep (and treat) 93% of those people at home, thus avoiding a costly ER visit!
